High Point Raceway hosted round four of the AMA MX National Series over weekend with a great track and nice weather.
06.15.09 Mt. Morris, PA - High Point Raceway hosted round four of the AMA MX National Series over weekend with a great track and nice weather. Division 7/Star Racing/Yamaha riders, #41 Matt Lemoine, #43 Broc Tickle, #159 Darryn Durham, and #455 Lucas Moraes were working on a good bit of confidence entering in after the previous race. In Saturday mornings timed qualifying, Tickle let his speed be known when he set the 2nd fastest lap time giving him second gate pick for the day.
Moto one crossed over the gate, and after lap one Lemoine lead the team in 8th, Durham was 12th, and Tickle suffered from a subpar start in 24th. In the next four laps Durham was able to hold on to the fast pace, even bouncing up to 6th, Lemoine found himself unsettled, which carried over to a small crash and that dropped him back a little to 11th, Tickle however was picking up just where he left off moving ten spots forward to 14th. Unfortunately, on lap five Durham took a soil sample when he swapped out while putting in his best ride to date, ok, he remounted and darted off to salvage points. The later stages of the moto came, and it could be seen that teammates Lemoine 7th, and Tickle 9th had charged all they could and needed to ride this one out. Courageously Durham never gave in and plugged away up through the field into 13th at the finish.
The all important second moto set out on the now treacherous track, and Durham got out to a good start holding down 9th, the other Division 7 teammates after lap one sat far back. Tickle 17th and Lemoine 26th after getting tangled up, so they all had some work to do. Still wanting to be the man, Tickle rose up and easily moved towards the top ten, on lap six he acquired 11th. Durham faltered just slightly early on losing a few spots, but this kid never quits and continued moving back in the right direction soon enough. Lemoine dug deep, consistently setting good lap times which enabled him to steadily rise up inside the top fifteen by mid race. In the end, Tickle got 8th, narrowly missing seventh, Durham secured 9th, and Lemoine came away in 11th.
