Double Podium for Flueckiger Brothers
Video from iXS Leogang
07.08.10 After their stay at the Trek World Racing Summer Camp, both Lukas and Mathias went to race the Swiss Racer Cup in Flims, and despite some issues, both managed the podium.
Running Top Fuel bikes on XR0 tires, the race was held in a hot 32 degrees, with no wind. The course had a fast start, and some steep uphills with some technical content, and as Luk puts it, "a super cool downhill with a lot of roots and drops, best course ever!"
Both boys had a great start and were part of the leading group with World Champion Nino Schurter, and Cannondale's Martin Gujan. On the 2nd lap, Math and Schurter pulled away putting 15 seconds into Luk and Gujan. But on lap 3 Math crashed on a downhill and this punctured his front tire and he lost valuable time.
By the middle of the race Luk had caught back up to Schurter, but one lap after catching him, Schurter attacked and took a 30 second gap. During this time Math had found his way back to the front of the race and was sitting in 3rd. On the final lap Luk was feeling strong and could see Schurter ahead...but took too much risk in the downhill trying to catch the World Champ, and flatted.
Despiet this Luk finished 2nd, just 12 second behind Schurter and Math finished 3rd, 2 minutes behind Luk. Both boys feel they have great form now leading into the next World Cups. This weekend they are in Israel contesting the European XC Championships.
In case you haven't seen this yet, here's a video from the iXS Leogang event, featuring our double headed win by Tracy and Justin.
