06.18.10 Hi all,
Sorry this update has taken so long but it has been a tough week since I returned home. More on that in a moment.
Last weekend we were racing at the European 4X Championships in Willingen, Germany. An awesome track located in the North of Germany. The race was held at the annual Wheels of Speed festival which draws in big crowds from all over Europe.
Practice went very well, apart from a couple of heavy landings that I had where I jarred my injured ankle a little. Unfortunately on Saturday morning my ankle had swollen up again due to the injured ligaments that I have had since Maribor World Cup, and I was having trouble even walking around. I rode my qualifier and came in 13th.
In the racing it did not go well at all and I ended up in 18th position for the evening. Disastrous weekend.
I spent the whole of Saturday evening assessing the options and I came to the conclusion that with my injured left foot, I was only riding at 60% - 70% and letting myself and all my sponsors down at the recent races - Harthill NPS, Fort William World Cup and at the Euros in Willingen.
So for the first time in my career, mid season I am taking a few weeks off. I have come home to get treatment, sort out the ligament problems that I have and come back strong at the final 2 World Cup races and at the World Championships in Mont St Anne. Not forgetting the National 4X Championships where I will be looking to retain my title.
After such a strong start to my season at the first World Cup at Houffalize with a 6th place finish, I am gutted to have been involved in a crash with another rider at the second round in Maribor, and my season has slipped away since.
Anyway, the great news is, since I have returned home I have been in touch with the physio at Birmingham City Football Club. They are now working with me every 2 days to get me back to 100% in the next 4 weeks. It was interesting to hear them say I should not have been walking in the last few weeks let alone riding with the injury I was carrying.
So my next appointment is tomorrow morning, but after only 1 session, I already can feel huge progress.
Attached are a couple of photos from the European Championships.
Ill keep you all informed on my progress.
Cheers,
Boom Boom
