SF Urban Riders - Support the SF Urban Riders as they fight for Bike Park here in SF
As SF Dirtlabbers, it is up to us to support the advocacy side of things, to ensure we can develop a killer trail network and world class Bike Park in the City.
08.06.09 Summer is in full swing and there are a ton of ways that you can continue to support the SF Urban Riders as they fight for Bike Park here in SF. As SF Dirtlabbers, it is up to us to support the advocacy side of things, to ensure we can develop a killer trail network and world class Bike Park in the City.
Volunteering on local trail projects gives a voice to us cyclists with the City agencies that have the power to make or break our dreams. We have been very successful at Mt. Sutro working side by side with SFRPD to build singletrack that is legal to ride on. The next big project is coming up this weekend, August 8 and 9th, in McLaren Park.
Please take a moment to read the attached flyer, and please visit http://v-o-cal.org/projects/mclaren.html website to signup. This may be a once in a lifetime opportunity to CAMP in McLaren Park and to enjoy the dinner and entertainment after work on Saturday. You know I'll be there, sweaty, dirty, sipping on some cold brews and being fed like a king!
And below is a message from SFUR about all the good things happening in the coming months.

Greetings fellow Cycling Enthusiasts

2) SFUR donates $16,000 to Trail Work
3) Vote for Nike Youth Grant worth $2,500
4) YMCA Youth MTB Camp Success

1) Trail Work in McLaren Park August 8th - 9th
The trail work experience will be happening this upcoming weekend in McLaren Park - join the fun! The event is hosted by SF Rec & Park, and Volunteer Outdoors California ( V-O-CAL ) and will feature new trail construction, trail realignment, and habitat restoration. This is a great opportunity for SFUR, and Mountain Bikers in general, to build a solid, sustainable relationship with SFRPD. Good Relationships lead to more and better trails.
Pre-registration available online - Walk Up registration is available at event

2) SFUR donates $16,000 to Trail Work
The hours that SFUR members donate are classified as 'In Kind Donations' toward the land manager of the project. In California this type of donation is valued at approximately $20.81 per hour. So far this 2009 calendar year SFUR members have donated more than 800 hours of volunteer stewardship work. This is worth approximately $16,648.00 - most of which has been on Mount Sutro which is owned by UCSF. Lets build some of this good will up with other land managers like SFRPD.
3) Vote for Nike Youth Grant worth $2,500
SFUR is continuously looking for small grants to help fund our projects. NIKE is hosting the 'Back Your Block' program which will award each local store a small grant - SFUR has applied with the San Francisco store. The awards will be based on the best Youth Programs that benefit the local community. SF Urban Riders think more bike skills events are needed in San Francisco. There is an internet voting component - We Need Your Vote!

4) YMCA Youth MTB Camp Success
The Presidio chapter of the YMCA hosted the first ever summer mountain bike camp for the youth of San Francisco, and the best news is most of it took place right here in the city. The program focused on the 10-12 year old age group, and started with basic street safety, which lead into bike skills sessions, and then trail rides. The group rode the Presidio, Golden gate Park, Mount Sutro, Montara Mountain and the finale was in China Camp State Park in Marin.

5) October 3rd Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day
Just another reminder that SF Urban Riders will be hosting a local 'Take A Kid Mountain Biking' in McLaren Park. It will feature bike skills areas, trail rides, and other fun stuff for all all ages and skill levels. We are proud to have IMBA, Clif Bar, YMCA, and others as sponsors. Spread the Word.
SFUR will be needing volunteers to assist with this event and look forward to hearing from anyone interested - keep it in mind!

6) October 4th Pilarcitos CX Race at McLaren Park
How is this for synchronicity in the local biking scene. Pilarcitos will also be in McLaren Park this same weekend, so that means twice the fun.
We thank you for your continued support
