LUNACHIX'S CATHARINE PENREL'S MID SEASON UPDATE
Hey all, sorry I’ve been so horrible at sending season updates. The summer has been a full one with lots of travel for racing and even a fun side trip to Italy. It has also been my most winning season ever. Race season opened with a win at the Pan American Championships in Chile and has now seen me score Luna’s first world Cup win of the year.Last Sunday I achieved a long term goal with a World cup win in Mont Sainte Anne, Quebec, one of my favourite courses. This course has the reputation of being the most technical course on the circuit as well as being very physically challenging. Growing up one province east of Quebec meant I got to share the victory with my parents who had come to watch. Teammate Katerina Nash claimed the Third podium position and Georgia’s 7th place finish helped us win the team overall.
This weekend was also the first race I did as the Canadian National champion which made winning a World Cup in Canada extra special. Nationals were held in Saint Felicien, Quebec two weeks ago where I was up against 6 time national Champion Marie Helene Premont.
An exciting addition to the Luna Team’s schedule this year was the BC Bike race. Katerina and I teamed up for seven days of racing through some of BC’s Best Single track and grabbed the win in each stage and eventually the overall ahead of the second place duo of Alison Sydor and Lea Davison. We chose to ride the Dual Suspension Orbea Oiz which worked beautifully through 7 days of rugged single track. Getting to ride and race amazing trails day after day in beautiful coastal BC with my teammates was an awesome experience I hope to repeat next year.
This Sunday Luna is racing the World Cup in Bromont Quebec. Last year I earned my first World cup win here so am hoping I’ll be able to put together another great race this weekend. Georgia and Katerina also claimed top 5 podium positions at Bromont last year so we’re all gunning for the podium.
The girls have been updating our new site teamlunachix.com with stories and pictures so if you have the chance make sure you check it out.
Thanks for all of your support!
Catharine
