The latest installment of the In Pursuit series from Trek World Racing has been released today. Entitled
Over the weekend the final round of the Nelson MTB Club downhill series was on the newly rebuilt Broken Axe DH track in the Maitai Valley here in Nelson. With a good week of weather leading up to the race it was set to be perfect conditions for the weekend of riding and racing.
Maxxis-Rocky Mountain cross country racers Geoff Kabush and Marie-Hélène Prémont were hoping to finish off the 2011 World Cup season with a bang at World Cup finals in Val di Sole, but luck was not on their side.
It is the end of August and the 2011 race season is almost over. Since the World Cup in La Bresse/ FRA we have been racing the “Nordketten Pro Downhill” in Innsbruck/ Austria, the European IXS Cup of Pila/ Italy, as well as the last World Cup round in Val di Sole/ Italy
For a lot of people the middle of August is all about holidays but not for the Morewood United Ride team who didn’t really see the sea.
The Flueckiger brothers once again had top 10 results yesterday at Round 7 of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup here in Val Di Sole, Italy in very warm conditions on a steep track that was almost entirely climbing or descending.
Last stop of the World Cup series this year was the Italian resort called Val di Sole. Even this track is not one of my favorites, on the way home I was very happy with my riding and result there.
In an incredible end to an amazing season for Trek World Racing, here in Val Di Sole Italy, Tracy Moseley clinched the World Cup title and Aaron Gwin became the only man in history to win 5 Downhill World Cups in one season.
The 2011 Schwalbe British 4X Series has been action packed from the first drop of the gate at Leamington, back in April, and the weekends racing at South West Extreme delivered more of the same.

Mathias Flueckiger and Lukas Flueckiger both finished top 10 at round 6 of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup at Nove Mesto Na Morave in the Czeck Republic.
The last couple months have been a nice change in the race schedule. The last two rounds of the World Cup were in North America, giving North American riders a nice break from the big travels across the pond.
This week sees Math and Luk getting ready for Round 6 of the XC World Cup in Nove Mesto na Morave (CZE) after training for 3 weeks at altitude in their preferred training venue of St. Moritz.
Mickael Pascal, Tim Bentley, and Fabien Cousinie returned to Europe for the World Cup 6 in La Bresse, France.
It's been a while since my last update, Chatel, and I have been busy traveling to the Worx events, Kokanee Crankworx, Colorado Crankworx and the Bearclaw Invitational AKA Clawworx.
Today in France Aaron Gwin made history, yet again, by becoming the first ever American man ever to win the World Cup Downhill title, a fact that will become even clearer to the 23 year old when he stands on the podium in Italy in 2 weeks' time to receive the prized crystal trophy.

The weather was horrendous. Heavy rain and gale force winds on race day meant it was going to be a tough day of racing against other riders and mother nature!
Nick Beer and Emilie Siegenthaler both defended their Swiss champion titles, while Floriane Pugin and Fabien Pedemanaud were slowed down by mechanical problems at the French championships.
The month of July didn't start off very well for the team. Between the average performances and Fabien’s injury to his foot, Mick changes everything today by winning by 0.57.

In World Cup#4 Mount Saint Anne, Canada, I crashed first day practice and I injured my left shoulder.

Following on from their great return to form last week in Mont St. Anne, the two Swiss brothers powered their Top Fuels into the Top 10 here at Windham, USA, for the 5th of 7 rounds of the 2011 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup.
All four Trek World Racing downhill riders performed strongly at Round 5 of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Windham, New York in front of a large US crowd on a short and technical track.

After more than a month from the first World Cup in South Africa, World Cup round 2 was held in Fort William, Scotland.
With only a hand full of downhill races going on around the country over winter I decided to make the most of it and head up to Rotorua for the weekend to race the Rotorua Winter DH Championships to get some more racing in.
Last weekend I spent in Paris attending an urban downhill race called Downtown Montmartre. The race was just for invited riders and it was in the middle of Paris, in front of famous basilica Sacre Coeur.
Aaron Gwin has his 2nd career win, and both Tracy Moseley and Aaron walk away with the Leader Jerseys.

Another round of 2011 World cup series is over. After the race in South Africa we were racing in Fort William, Scotland.

Coming into the third round of the 2011 UCI World Cup XC schedule in Offenburg, Germany, Team Maxxis-Rocky Mountain was hoping for a turn around in its luck. The first rounds in Pietermaritzburg, RSA and Dalby Forest, UK were marred by crashes and resulting mechanicals and illness.

It was a day of ups and downs for Dan, Gee, and Rachel as they contested their home World Cup in Fort William, Scotland. The event marked the second of a seven race series and the first one in just under a year for the eldest Atherton Dan.
The wildest downhill world cup of all times saw SCOTT11's Fabien Pedemanaud fighting his way back into the top 20 and Floriane Pugin flying onto the podium!

Today saw Trek World Racing once again competing on two continents, and this time in 3 different countries.
Just before the World Cup in Fort William we had a Euro fourcross race also in Great Britain in the area called Afan. It is a great MTB venue closed to Port Talbot and except of the fourcross track they also have really nice singletracks!
On Sunday we got the last chance ever to ride the R&R trail in the Maitai Valley which is getting logged this week and the Nelson Mountain Bike Club decided to make a good day of it by running a Super D event on it.

Yesterday saw Trek World Racing competing on two continents. The Flueckiger brothers were racing World Cup XC #2 in Dalby Forest (GBR) and the three Downhill men were racing the Pro Gravity Tour DH #3 in Plattekill, NY (USA).
After round one of the World Cup in South Africa we had a 3 week break in which I was flying to Europe for training and meeting up with Wyn, so the first race back after riding lots of XC and DH was round 2 of the IXS downhill cup in Todtnau Germany.
So I decided to make the 2 hour drive out to Port Angeles for the 2nd round of north west cup. The weekend started of great with blue skies and perfect temperatures right around 60f.

It’s been a great start with 2 British Series wins, 10th at the first World Cup in South Africa (not bad considering he was ill) and an 8th place at the opening Euro Series round.
The big surprise for some was that the winner was 'junior' rider, Neko Mulally (USA) who had a convincing gap of 2.5secs over team mate Aaron Gwin (USA) and another second back to Justin Leov (NZL), who is back on pace.

The Transition Racing crew arrived in NH on Wed evening and hit the venue for setup, a little park riding, and course walk. The course looked to be pretty challenging full of roots, rocks and multiple line choices in many areas. The Highland Park crew did a fantastic job designing the course.
Team SC-Intense Riders Florent Payet and Faustin Figaret went away last weekend to race the regional cup at Anduze, France.

Bettering his previous result on the long physical course, Gee Atherton of Commencal took third spot at the first round of the World Cup Series in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.
The first round of the World Cup was on this weekend in South Africa. All new venue and country for me, I didn't make it down here for the race in 2009. Pretty amazing experience.

The first test of the World Cup 2011 of mountain biking in the city of Pietermaritzburg (South Africa) with a warm weather and a completely dry circuit has been disputed.
Starting on the front row of the first World Cup of the 2011 season here in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, Mathias Flueckiger was quick to get away at the start of the 6 lap race, with brother Lukas close behind starting from row 2.

Trek World Racing's Tracy Moseley (GBR) and Aaron Gwin (USA) have walked away with the leaders' jerseys of the series after a display of blistering speed, strength, and determination in front of a huge crowd in sunny Pietermaritzburg.
The South African world cup remains different, also on the second day. The good thing is that all the teams have to deal with the same conditions, and that makes things interesting.
Returning to the team is cross-country mountain bike icon, Geoff Kabush. The two time Olympian, World Cup winner, and holder of the record for all-time US series cross-country and short track wins is targeting World Cup podiums in 2011, building steadily to the London 2012 Olympics.

Something about riding in the morning and kayaking in the evening makes my body feel really good. And my brain.
Today at Sea Otter Jared Graves beat Brian Lopes to win the dual slalom, Danny Hart was third, Bryn Atkinson fourth. In the womens race Melissa Buhl went up against Jill Kintner in the semifinal and lost, putting her out of contention for the win. Jill ended up winning against Joanna Pedersen, Melissa third, Eva Castro fourth.

With Absa Cape Epic done and dusted, the whole team has moved into Camp here in Stellenbosch, near Cape Town, at a great Lodge where the riders have been able to get in some quality training, testing and recovery, and even some impressive games of tennis!

What a fantastic weekend. The sun stayed out for the majority, a huge field of 170 riders and a new track at Leamington Spa kicked off the 2011 Schwalbe British 4X Series in fine style on Sunday.

Well the National 4X Series came to an end on Sunday at Chicksands Bikepark here in the UK. With bright blue skies the track was in perfect condition and I was really looking forward to racing here in the UK again.

Leading in to the final round i was pretty happy with how my season had gone. After being ill the year before i had to start from scratch. I had no fitness at all, no up to date experience of racing at full fitness and most importantly no confidence.
World championship was the last big and most important race of 2010 season. I wasn´t in Canada last year so I was really looking forward to race at this place again.

With a World Cup overall title, World Cup wins, several World Cup podiums and multiple national championship titles, the 2010 season has been extremely successful for Team Maxxis-Rocky Mountain. The icing on the cake would have been to take home the World Champion stripes from this year’s World Championships at Mont St. Anne, but that will have to wait until next year.
The World Championships are over here in Mt St Anne, it was a bit of a brutal week for me. To start out, I heavily sprained my ankle on Wednesday and took the next few days off from practice resting, trying to get the swelling down.
Many things have happened since the last news. Firstly, the last 2 French Cups in which Thibaut has been desperately unlucky, falling in final on the 2 races, especially in Oz-en-Oisans, or 2nd in qualifying and best intermediate time with more than 2 seconds.

Capping off an impressive week for the Trek World Racing program, Tracy Moseley (GBR) wins her first ever World Championship, something she has been aiming to achieve since 1995 as a junior.
In a race that saw Trek World Racing's Mathias Flueckiger as far back as 16th on lap one, and with a front puncture on lap 2, the 21 year old Swiss rider showed immense maturity and race intelligence to return to the head of the race without over exerting himself, yet staying on the limit throughout the race to win the World Championships today by 30 seconds.
The organizer is doing his best to keep us away from work with all kinds of side events, but our athletes stay focussed on what really matters: the preparation for the most important race of the season.

All or nothing was the style of riding for Nick Beer, and so it was for the rest of the mens field. Nick Beer attacked to the max and made it to the world cup podium for the first time in his life! The fifth place in Windham is also the first world cup podium for Switzerland since 2002! Nick places 12th in the world cup overall.
After a nail biting season which has seen Commencal rider Gee Atherton and Santa Cruz Syndicates Greg Minnaar scrapping over tenths seconds all year, we finally crowned a World Cup Champion at the final round today at Windham Mountain, New York.
In the Cross Country World Cup, Mathias Flueckiger (SUI) received official recognition as the World Cup Champion in the Men's Under 23 Category having unofficially secured the win at the penultimate race in Val di Sole, Italy. Despite having an unusually disappointing race here at Windham finishing 18th overall, Mathias still finished 1st in the U23 category thus making it a clean sweep of all 6 rounds and demonstrating the outstanding ability of this young Swiss rider. The official World Cup trophy represents a huge achievement and is the first in his collection. Mathias now focuses on battling it out for the top spot on the podium in the U23 Category at the World Championships in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Canada, next week.
After a 2009 season marred by health issues and an up-and-down 2010 season in which she had her fair share of bad luck, Team Maxxis-Rocky Mountain’s Marie-Hélène Prémont showed her true potential this past weekend at the UCI World Cup Finals in Windham, NY. Prémont finished just four seconds off the win in second place, behind fellow Canadian Catharine Pendrel and over two minutes ahead of her next competitor.

For its 2nd edition, the World Cup in Champery (Switzerland) has been up to its reputation. One of the steepest and most engaged track of the circuit, which hosted a big show throughout the weekend.
Schools cycling program draws solid industry support
Star of the weekend was XC rider, Mathias Flueckiger (SUI), who had an outstanding ride in his home country securing 4th place on the podium in the Men's Elite, and in the Women's Elite race, Emily Batty (CAN) rode strong and hard to secure a fantastic 3rd place on the podium in the Under 23 title race.

Tough weekend here in Champery, my first run of the weekend started with a big over the bars, taking a massive body hit, kept me a little sore.
This is probably the most hyped and technical course on the circuit.
The 2010 Pass Portes event was a bit of a hurried and unplanned affair for me. The same weekend was the Enduro des Nations event which I had planned to compete in with Kashi Leucs, but our other team mate pulled out at the last minute.
I’m never racing a LeMans start, dusty singletrack Super D again. Or at least until I can run properly, which will be never. Other than that Nationals went pretty darn well for the Giant Team.

It would be easy to surmise that Team Maxxis-Rocky Mountain’s Geoff Kabush, having won Canadian National MTB Championships for the last seven years in a row, would cruise to number eight without much difficulty. Those “in the know”, however, predicted a Battle Royale between Kabush and Max Plaxton, the winner of two US Cup races this season.
Downieville California is an eight hour drive from Bend Oregon. A drive I’d only done once, when I carpooled with “Crazy Mike” to the Singlespeed World Championships there in 2002.

Last weekend we were racing at the European 4X Championships in Willingen, Germany. An awesome track located in the North of Germany. The race was held at the annual Wheels of Speed festival which draws in big crowds from all over Europe.

Wow… How's that for an insane Fort William World Cup! We all know that the Kiwi World Cup Riders shred but i’m guessing no one had this 1,2,3 listed in their Dirt fantasy predictions. Gee Atherton of team Commencal thrilled the home crowd to take an inaugural win at the second leg of the UCI Downhill Mountain Bike World Cup in Fort William, Scotland. In a nail biting finish to a superb weekend of racing the middle Atherton sibling avenged his brothers and sisters bad fortunes and solidified his chase on the overall World Cup title.

Due to the logistics of travel, Georgia only had one bike for the mud fest at Granogue. That didn't slow her down as she decimated the women's field for her first UCI cross victory. The World Cup Finals were this past weekend in Schladming, Austria. Catharine Pendrel had a fantastic ride, finishing 3rd. She gained enough points to finish 3rd in the overall World Cup standings.

Less than a week after finishing with his first ever World Cup elite podium at Champery, 20 year old Mathias Flueckiger showed what an incredible future star he is for the sport by taking 3rd place here at the final round of the World Cup in Schladming, Austria.

Today was the day I have been anticipating for six months; my first cyclocross race since 2004. Ever since I decided to come back and race cross, I knew there was going to have to be a “first race”. Today was that day, and I survived!

The Trek World Racing XC riders returned to World Cup racing after several weeks of local racing, National Championships and the European Championships, with Lukas Flueckiger returning to the top 10 after a difficult start.

We are expecting a beautiful Enduro season with the 5th edition of the Enduro Series and the Second Edition of the Trophy of Nations.
Fox Racing Shox and the Athertons teamed up last season and made quite the impact with both Rach and Gee winning Worlds in 2008. For this year, they are continuing to work even closer together to refine the DHX RC4 rear shock and tune the forks to keep the Athertons on the podiums.

With crowds to rival Fort William and a track that encouraged a bit of elbow action the racing was as good as it gets last weekend.
Gee Atherton has picked up his first 2009 win for team Animal Commencal in the opening round at the of the National Point Series in Ae Forest, Scotland.
Older brother Lukas scores 6th place here at World Cup Round 2, two spots better than round 1, and Mathias comes back from a difficult start to finish 21st (2nd in under 23 category).
